Currently if your Driver CPC has expired and you want to return to driving, you always need to take 35 hours of training before you’re allowed to start driving again.
However, from 01 February 2025, this will change, and it will be easier to return to professional driving. The changes are set out below:
If your International or National Driver CPC expired up to 2 years ago
From 1 February 2025, if your International or National Driver CPC has been expired between 60 days and 2 years, you will have 4 options.
- Complete the full 35 hours of International Driver CPC training (i.e. the current process) to drive in the UK or EU
- Complete 35 hours of National Driver CPC training to drive in the UK only.
- Complete a new 7 hour return to driving module. You can then start driving professionally again in the UK only, but you must then either complete:
a. A further 28 hours of other International Driver CPC training within 12 months of finishing the ‘return to driving’ module for EU or UK driving.
b. A further 28 hours of National Driver CPC training within 12 months of finishing the ‘return to driving’ module for UK only driving.
If your International or National Driver CPC expired more than 2 years ago
Unfortunately, if your Driver CPC expired more than 2 years ago, the changes coming in 2025 will not affect what you need to do.
This means you will still need to either:
- Complete 35 hours of International Driver CPC training before you can drive again in the UK and EU
- Complete 35 hours of National Driver CPC before you can drive again in the UK
