Greenfeeds Limited and 2 others appeared at Leicester Crown Court in April 2021 and denied manslaughter charges. The company denied 2 counts of corporate manslaughter and an offence under the Health & Safety at Work etc Act. Company secretary Gillian Leivers and employee Stewart Brown pleaded not guilty to corporate manslaughter charges and offences under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act. Another director, Ian Leivers, also pleaded not guilty to an offence under the Health & Safety at Work etc Act.
The charges relate to the deaths of two employees of the food recycler. In December 2016, Nathan Walker and Gavin Rawson died at Church Farm, Normanton, after Nathan Walker tried to deal with a blockage in a slurry tank but became stuck in a tight space. Gavin Rawson died when he tried to save Walker but accidentally fell into the slurry tank.
A trial has been fixed for 26 April 2022. The three defendants were granted unconditional bail.
