Room for Optimism in the French Roaming Permit Crisis?

We initially brought the breaking news to your attention regarding roaming permits for UK abnormal load operators operating in France on 11th February 2021, via our YouTube Channel. Since 1st January 2021, abnormal load operators in France had been unable to take advantage of the roaming permit system. We are pleased to inform you the matter is now resolved. There has been an announcement to the effect that the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has instructed their civil servants who work on abnormal load permits that the regime applying to UK hauliers in respect of roaming permits shall remain the same as it was before BREXIT and that the permits issued before the end of 2020 shall remain valid until date of expiry. The Department for Transport have released the below statement:

I am pleased to be able to inform you that the Department for Transport has now secured confirmation from the French Ministry of Interior and the European Commission that the arrangements for issuing French roaming permits for abnormal loads carried by UK hauliers will return to the previous arrangements that were in place before the end of the transition period. UK abnormal loads hauliers can continue to use category 1 and 2 permits for transporting abnormal loads to France, and all permits that were issued before the end of 2020 will remain valid until their expiration date.
