‘Amber’ waste wood items no longer hazardous

The news that the Environment Agency has agreed to classify ‘amber’ waste wood items from HWRC and demolition waste streams as non-hazardous is welcome news for the industry.

Up until now certain ‘amber’ waste wood items (fences, posts, decking, external doors, windows, cladding etc, timber frames and joists etc) had been deemed potentially hazardous.

However, extensive testing and research led by the WRA proved quite the opposite.

Following this revelation, the decision to re-classify ‘amber’ waste wood items was recently confirmed by the Environment Agency and (according to WRA) is likely to save the wood recycling industry ‘millions in hazardous waste disposal costs and red tape’.
