Changes to the MOT test

The legislation to enable the changes required under Directive 2010/48/EU to the MOT test for Classes 4, 5 & 7, comes into force on 20 March 2013.
VOSA states that plans are underway to enable the items which were added to the inspection manuals in January 2012, and are currently being advised, to become fail items from 20 March 2013 where defects are found.
Other changes affecting the MOT test include:

  1. Minimum service brake efficiency requirement for passenger vehicles with no more than 8 passenger seats increasing to 58% first used on or after 1st September 2010;
  2. Amendments to the imbalance requirements (30% across each individual axle) are to take place in July 2013.
  3. Adding the country of registration to the test certificate.  This will be in place for 2014.

What does this mean in terms of the HGV/PSV manuals?  According to VOSA, it’s simply that everything currently printed in blue will be changed to black text.
