Careers
Rebecca Jones
I am a 3rd year English Literature student at the University of York and interested in pursuing a legal career upon graduation. I contacted Dyne Solicitors in view of gaining some work experience. My two weeks at Dyne’s offered interactions with an interesting range of practice areas – from environmental regulatory law through to civil litigation and property.
I acquired a confident feeling for what working in each of these specialist fields involves on a day to day basis, through a diverse range of legal tasks. Working with supervised responsibilities such as organising case files and conducting legal research for a firm partner allowed me to get to grips with a solicitor’s role, whilst learning more about the law itself. I did, however, always have enough guidance from the fantastic team at Dyne’s; my legal and non-legal questions never went unanswered even with the busy and fast-paced working environment.
I was also invited to join client meetings and attended both magistrates and crown court hearings; these experiences, along with insight into the administrative tasks also crucial to the success of the firm, provided me with an in-depth yet well-rounded idea of what being a solicitor truly involves. Overall, work experience with Dyne Solicitors offered a valuable fortnight enhancing both my legal knowledge and understanding of a successful law firm operating as a national business.
